In October 1998 Jonathan Harold weighed only 2 pounds and 7 ounces after being born 3 months early at Mercy Medical Center in Canton, OH. In 2017, as a senior of Lake High School in Uniontown, OH and a member of National Honor Society, he decided to create an event to give back to the NICU that took care of him.

Since 2017, the original fundraiser continues to expand thanks to Lake High School baseball coach Joe Anderson and members of Lake High School National Honor Society. All proceeds are donated to benefit neonatal care and maternity services.

FAQ

WHY ARE THERE FEES WHEN DONATING?

In order to maximize the amount of money being donated and allow more people to participate,  we decided to utilize the GiveButter Platform to collect money rather than collecting in person. With that being said, you may notice fees when donating for credit card processing and tips to support the GiveButter Platform. Unfortunately to remove these features it requires additional monthly costs or increases the current fee from 0% to 5%.  Donations including tips and fees help maximize the amount of money being donated but can be edited while making your donation if you did not want to cover the fees.  Any donation is appreciated!

    • the details of your event. Be prepared to discuss what you want your event to look like. We will work with you to understand your vision.

    • logistics of running the event. We want to make sure you understand what is involved and are comfortable running your event. We will help answer any questions to make running your event is as easy as possible.

OUR ROLE:

  • Give you all of the tools needed to raise money and run your event online.

  • Work with you and support your event. If there is anything you are looking to do in-person we will help provide resources the best we can.

  • Work with your hospital of choice to set up and donate all event proceeds.

  • Medical expenses for a baby born prematurely average about $54,000, compared to $4,000 for a healthy, full-term newborn.

  • Preterm birth rates remain stubbornly higher among certain racial and ethnic groups in the U.S., including Black, Native American and Hispanic women. The rate of preterm birth among uninsured women also is far higher than the national average (19.8 percent in 2013.)

  • As many as 11.4 percent of all pregnancies end in early deliveries.

  • About 450,000 babies in the United States alone are born too soon and 15 million babies are born preterm around the world - that's 1 in 10!

  • 80 plus percent of preterm births are unanticipated.

  • Approximately 45-50% of preterm births are idiopathic. (unknown)
